Poison Creek is a place of solitude where invited sculptors can enjoy space and time for contemplation and reflection.

The Poison Creek Artist Residency is invitation only, and is up to eight weeks' duration.

Elizabeth Thomson was the inaugural (2019/2020) Poison Creek Artist in Residence.

We are thrilled to announce that our second residency (2022) has been awarded to Sam Duckor-Jones.

Past resident artists

Elizabeth Thomson (winter 2019, late summer 2020)

Elizabeth wrote to us: "Lovely light on the hills makes me think of Bill Sutton's landscape paintings from the 1960s. Love the mountain air....Have been painting bronze moths with markings particular to this area. Lichen and tussock moths that camouflage with Central Otago colours and patterns - earthy colours, tussock, lichens, snow and rock".

Her show Out on the Plain - Synthetic Cubism at the Central Art Gallery, Christchurch, followed her stay at Poison Creek. See the works here:
